Patients with deep wrinkles, droopy skin, volume loss, and uneven skin tone are usually the best candidates for PRP therapy. Since it promotes collagen production naturally, it's also a wonderful treatment choice for refreshing tired-looking skin. Inform Dr. Thakkar about any skin conditions, anemia, or blood disorders to decide if it's safe for you to undergo PRP therapy.
After you're comfortably seated in one of our secluded minor procedure areas, a small amount of blood will be taken from one of your arms and put into a centrifuge machine. Most of the time, we remove around one vial of blood. After approximately 15 minutes on the centrifuge machine, the components of the blood separate and are then ready to be injected. We will load your rich plasma into a syringe and inject it into the predetermined locations. The PRP process takes approximately five minutes, but that can vary.
What to Expect
Plasma from PRP therapy naturally promotes the production of collagen and elastin to reveal tauter, youthful-looking skin. As it uses your own blood, the risk of adverse or allergic reactions is basically nonexistent. You can expect your face to be a bit red following PRP therapy as traces of red blood cells can make it into the injection. Cold packs can be used on the injection area to minimize discomfort and swelling. Dr. Thakkar recommends you undergo treatments in 4 – 6-week intervals to maintain results.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does PRP therapy cost?
The price of PRP therapy procedures will depend on the size of the area being treated and if you choose to combine the procedure with any other treatments. The cost of the procedure and the various payments we accept will be discussed after your initial consultation with Dr. Thakkar, in which your treatment plan will be created to suit your needs and aims.
How long do results from PRP therapy last?
PRP therapy is known to last for several weeks. The lasting effect of the results will vary, depending on the area that is treated. This nonsurgical procedure offers many benefits in that it is very minimally invasive, does not have an overly long healing time, and it is significantly less expensive than an invasive, surgical alternative.
What are the risks and complications of PRP therapy?
PRP therapy carries very few risks. When combined with microneedling, potential risks may include moderate to mild scarring, a chance of infection, hyperpigmentation, and slowed healing.
Will PRP help replenish volume?
Although PRP therapy offers stunning, natural results that rejuvenate the appearance of the skin and encourage the production of collagen and elastin, this procedure is not designed to replenish lost volume. If you wish to target certain areas on the face that have decreased in volume, dermal fillers may be a better option for you and your goals.
Is PRP therapy painful?
Most patients report feeling a mild pinch or pressure at the time of injection. The procedure itself should not be painful. However, if you are anxious about any potential pain, Dr. Thakkar may apply a local anesthetic to the treated area before the procedure to reduce any discomfort.
When you have PRP treatments, your complexion can look healthier and brighter than ever before and produce a glowing, beautiful appearance. This treatment is just right for women and men who appreciate a natural technique for skin rejuvenation that provides gorgeous results.
