What is BroadBand Light Therapy?

BroadBand Light (BBL) Therapy uses regenerating technology to enhance the aesthetics of the skin and helps it to look younger and smoother. It works by applying therapeutic light energy that slightly warms the top layer of skin and generates collagen production. People with a variety of skin issues may benefit from BBL since it functions to fix rosacea, broken blood vessels, sun damage, and unwanted freckles, as well as provide laser hair removal. Also, it can help create a more smooth and even skin surface texture to generate fresh, glowing skin. BBL could be added to other cosmetic treatments to satisfy your requirements and goals. Our practice, Youthology Med Spa in Roanoke, TX, provides BBL at the recommendation of Dr. A. D. Thakkar as an innovative therapy proven to help rejuvenate our patients' skin. At our state-of-the-art facility, we provide BBL as an acne treatment, to decrease unwanted pigmentation, to treat vascular issues, to tighten the skin, and for permanent laser hair removal. Learn more about BBL and how it may be beneficial to you by contacting our Roanoke practice to schedule a consultation.

BroadBand Light™ Therapy Ideal Candidates

A good candidate for BBL is any patient dealing with hyperpigmentation, textured skin, or aging skin. This could be due to sun damage, damaged capillaries, rosacea, or acne. BBL also helps to make the skin appear more youthful by stimulating the regeneration of collagen. Additionally, BBL is an effective treatment for laser hair removal. Depending on the type of filter and modality that are used, BBL can be utilized as a treatment and/or maintenance regimen for a variety of skin issues. Before undergoing treatment, we will discuss how BBL technology might help you reach your desired results.

How Does BBL Work?

After customizing the necessary treatment plan, the programming of the BBL system will be adjusted to fit the needs of your skin. Before starting the treatment, your eyes will be protected from the laser with a cover. Dr. Thakkar will then lightly pass the laser over your skin while focusing on the treatment areas. The amount of time necessary for the treatment will vary, depending on the issue being treated and if any other treatments were completed during the BBL treatment session. BBL procedures can ordinarily be completed in about one hour or less.

What to Expect with BroadBand Light™ Therapy

After the session, a soothing cream will be applied to your skin. Dr. Thakkar will also supply post-treatment care directions and might advise reducing your exposure to the sun. Otherwise, patients are usually able to return to their normal daily routine. Outcomes from BBL may be seen in 2 – 6 weeks following the initial treatment, but the best results will normally be seen after multiple BBL treatments. Dr. Thakkar will provide the recommended number of procedures to achieve your preferred outcome.

BroadBand Light™ Therapy Frequently Asked Questions

How much does BBL cost?
Dr. Thakkar should be able to estimate your costs in your initial consultation once your plan has been developed. Your costs will vary, depending on what area(s) you are having treated, the treatment area(s) size, and how many treatments you will need. After Dr. Thakkar assesses the health of your skin and understands your needs, he will work with you to decide on your BBL plan. Youthology Med Spa often runs specials on treatments, like BBL, so be sure to ask about our current deals when you make your appointment.

How many treatments will I need?
The number of BBL sessions needed will be estimated in your initial consultation once Dr. Thakkar assesses your skin. Typically, patients achieve their skin goals after three treatments. However, if you have severe pigmentation, sun damage, or discoloration, you may need more treatments. During your initial consultation, Dr. Thakkar will consider your goals and create your custom plan. Your appointments will be spaced about 3 – 4 weeks apart to allow your skin to recover.

What areas can be treated with BBL?
All areas of skin can be improved with BBL; however, the most commonly treated areas are the face, chest, hands, neck, shoulders, and back. These are the areas that typically show the most damage since they're frequently in the sun. The face, neck, and hands are also most often affected by lifestyle and natural aging so treating these areas can help rejuvenate your whole appearance.

How is BBL different from other lasers?
Sciton's innovative BroadBand Light is a high-powered intense pulsed light (IPL) skin treatment. The wide range of energy wavelengths and dual lamps allow Dr. Thakkar to customize your BBL treatment to meet your skin concerns. Utilizing different energies, BBL can improve both red and brown lesions, plus light and dark spots without harming the surrounding skin and tissue. Safe, but effective, BBL can give you a clear, beautiful complexion in fewer sessions than many other skin treatments.

Is BBL safe for all skin tones?
The energy wavelengths in a BroadBand Light treatment can be adjusted for each patient's unique needs so BBL can be used on all skin tones and types. To get your best results, it is suggested that you avoid unprotected ultraviolet (UV) light exposure (both natural sunlight and tanning beds) for at least 10 – 14 days before your BBL session. Tanned skin has higher levels of pigment (melanin), which may absorb the BBL energy and affect your results. The treated areas will be extra sensitive to UV exposure so you need to not use tanning beds and limit sun exposure throughout your treatment and for at least 10 – 14 days following your last appointment.
